The new reference retains the signature specs of the yellow gold Daytona, starting by a 40mm case fitted with a black Cerachrom monobloc bezel with tachymetric scale. Water resistant to 100m, it has a screw-down crown and screwed pushers. The novelty lies in its striking new dial and the new, bold combination of colours and materials. The brand describes it as a turquoise and black lacquer dial but Tiffany blue immediately came to our minds when discovering the press pictures. It fearures black, snailed counters, 18k gold applique hour markers and hands with a Chromalight display.
Rolex has put out several extremely coveted Daytonas over the past couple of years, including limited-edition Le Mans versions in white gold and yellow gold. Now, Rolex is finding more ways to make one of its flagship models feel even more special.
This year, Rolex is releasing a Daytona with a bright turquoise dial. Notably, this isn’t the “ice blue” dial that the Crown often pairs with platinum pieces and is relatively common in the brand’s catalog. Instead, this is a vivid blue reminiscent of the one associated with a certain famous jeweler. The color isn’t entirely new to the Rolex catalog, however. In 2020, the Crown put out an Oyster Perpetual with the Tiffany-esque hue that quickly became a collector favorite. This year, Tudor, Rolex’s sister brand, put out a version of its Black Bay Chrono in a very similar tone that it called “Flamingo Blue”. For what it’s worth, Rolex is describing this dial as “a resplendent turquoise blue lacquer dial.”
